A very recurrent doubt among those who discuss urban mobility and rail transport concerns the continuity of the CPTM (Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos)’s Service 710. The line, which connects the municipalities of Jundiaí and Rio Grande da Serra, both in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, is the result of the operational unification of lines 7 – Ruby and 10 – Turquoise.
The doubt arises from the fact that, so far, only line 7 – Rubi (Brás – Jundiaí) is included in the same package of State Government concessions as TIC (InterCity Train) and TIM (InterMetropolitan Train), which will connect the cities of São Paulo and Campinas. This means that there is a possibility (since the complete concession's public notice has not yet been released) that part of line 10 – Turquoise will go back to operating separately from line 7, which is the continuity of its tracks. If this occurs, line 10 should serve passengers up to Luz, while line 7 should only operate up to Palmeiras – Barra Funda.
In view of this fact, during the press conference held at the end of the public hearing for the concession of TIC, TIM and line 7, this hearing was held in August in the city of Campinas, the secretary of transport, Alexandre Baldy, stated: “We will still carry out these studies for the possibility of including Line 10 or not. If included, it will definitely be part of the project in an operation that goes from Jundiaí to Rio Grande da Serra,” said the incumbent at the press conference, according to a text on the Via Trólebus website.
However, the minutes of the notice that have already been made available by the state government do not mention, at any time, the insertion of line 10 in the concession package. It remains for us, then, to wait for more details or the release of the complete public notice.
Also according to the Via Trólebus portal, specialized in urban mobility and transport, in response on social networks, when asked by a follower about the continuity of the 710 service even with the concession, the secretary said “we want to keep” the service.
